assuming the dizzy has not been removed and replaced, I have read of problems being resolved with replacement of the camshaft position sensor within the dizzy, if it fails your vehicle will not run correctly

one should closely examine the wiring around the coil & dizzy, remove and inspect the coil itself, they are known to become cracked and short, they can theoretically be tested with an ohmeter

XJ wiring is brittle imo
