'93 cherokee sport, aw4 transmission bad?
I was riding the interstate, rpm's remained the same, but the jeep just sort of coasted to a stop, no noise, very smooth. Tried all gears nothing. The day before it did make a couple sloppy, longer, noisier shifts than usual but not considerably. So, had it towed home. Now, 2 weeks later start it up, making a whiny, almost mild grinding noise, put in reverse, and reverse works (went back about 1 foot), then put in drive, drive works, go ahead a foot, the noise slightly picks up (sound like coming from flywheel area) and then nothing, no more tranny. The tranny has 150,000 on it, good clean fluid. Could, hope beyond hope, be something simple? Or is this the manner in which they fail and fail only big-time? Anyone rebuilding or selling in western pa area?

I've had about 4 transmissions go in 4 of my vehicles. No warning. Fluid was bright red. Check the color on a white napkin. Shows true color. Should have a celery type smell. You can gamble it and do a service with filter. Avg shop fee is $49-$89. Do the filter. Avg rebuild is $1500-$2100.
