So you did nothing but put the car in neutral and the car then started? You didn't replace the starter or cables? Shoot maybe you can come over and fix a few projects I got around the house here. The lights should come on and then go out after the buzzer stops buzzing, they should not be coming on again. Sounds like you have a code to pull. You should probably do that, also, make sure that the battery cables are good. If they are shot and causing excesive draw then they can cause some real tail chasing problems.

Could be, that or you are having multiple issues at once, like a bad ignition switch and bad neutral saftey switch. Something like that. In my opinion I would just go through and start checking the obvious things, and if they don't look right then at least fix them so that they work or replace them. The car started, did you drive it around at all. If it runs and drives then I would start replacing anything that didn't work or looked like it was on it's way out. If it runs and drives you know that it is not just a parts car and justifies putting a little money into it.

yes it did start....first time in 6 years lol. im smoked for like 5 minutes and then it was runnin fine until it sarted over heating. but i couldnt drive it around as i have no driveshafts in yet. ive just got to put the front one in and i just ordered a new slip yoke for the rear shaft. i also have the seats and everything out.

Anyways, the light comes on in the on position and the buzzer comes on. i didnt wait tong enough to see if the buzzer turned off again. i know the lights go out after a little while. but when i crank it over, it just cranks and cranks until the lights come back on for a second and i noticed the temp guage jumped as high as it would go until it started and then dropped down to normal again. im not sure what my issue is.
the reason i think it is the ignition switch is because you have to hold the key in just the right spot to get it to turn over....

The ignition switch idea seems logical, your temp gauge is pegging out because it is grounding out somewhere, the fact that it is grounding out when the key is in the start position would indicate the ignition switch in my opinion. The code I was refering to is a trouble code, the car will shoot you a trouble code when there is a problem with select circuts or emmisions equipment. Replacing the ignition switch just might do away with a lot of the issues you are having with dash lights and gauges hopefully.

Did you get a chance to install the new ignition switch?

Allowing the engine to crank when in neutral is almost assuredly the NSS (neutral safety switch).

This problem is likely to reappear. Here is a link to rectifying that...
