I just purchased a 91 xj sport. The motor is making some horrible noise and can't tell where it is coming from. It's an auto 4.0 when shifted into gear it makes a terrible knock. Flexplate? And it ticks. Any help would be great. Trying to fix it t

 

It could very well be the flexplate. I would pull the inspection covers off and take a peek.

Anybody know why it would make a loud clank putting into drive? Harsh engagement I think but how can I cure it?

 

A single clank when you shift into gear, or repeated in a cycle? A single clank is likely a worn driveshaft u-joint.

 

It's a single one but only happens when its low on gas?? Which the part that gets me. I'm a high school student so I have a small budget to fix it
