91 motor swap with 93 help
Hey guys, few questions for you all. The other day my sons and myself went wheeling, ended up in water just about to hood line and hydro-locked motor, flooded interior all on a 91 i had just a month ago replaced the engine.
Went craigslist shopping and got a 93 4.0 pulled mine and getting new one ready to go in...on mine the fan sits off on the left side if your facing the front. This 93 it sits in the middle, motor didnt come with the accessories or brackets out side of the water pump and alternator cause mine didnt swim well. Needless to say i am running into issues trying to get it all on the motor. Anyone know if i can simply swap my water pump and use my fan/brackets and so on? Or do i need to source all new accessories and brackets?
Thanks

Thats the thing, my water pump did not have the fan mounted to it where this one does. So I will need to swap over water pumps if they are the same mounting surfaces. My brackets are different then what I have been able to identify online as well. Going to try and get the correct brackets and hope accessories fit.

The 93 engine should be the same as the 91 as far as the accessory drive is concerned. Like what was said before, just swap it all over, water pump should all be the same

Thanks for the replies. Thinking this must be a yj motor as the motor mounts were different as well. Didn't notice that till I fought it for over an hour trying to get it lined up. Its in though, tomorrow few transmission bolts torque bolts and electrical she should be good.
Used a combination of different pullies and brackets but all lines up now.

Got a few pictures of it..and my eerr...damn that puddle was deeper than the last one moment..
I bought this XJ several months ago, motor had a bad crank that I didnt know about at the time ended up replacing the motor shortly after getting it. I popped off the air box cover and checked the filter, I should have checked a bit harder as the box is busted all up
My adventurous side lead myself and my boys to play a bit, knowing I need to get tires but not having the money so went as is...I know to check the depth of the water prior to going though it but after going through all the others I said screw it and went for it, hadnt made it in that far and she shut off, I restarted it like an idiot and pretty sure that cost me the motor. I know better now
Naturally that left only 1 real option..call the wife to bring the Suburban out to rescue me...she did and it did, broke several recovery straps but finally got out.
The motor was dead, interior flooded and yay, to my surprise after pulling the carpet I see passenger floor boards rusted pretty bad. That is next on the list after this
So thats my story and I am unfortunately sticking with it..will update when it comes back to life Thanks again for the help..

She's alive bit of trouble at first till we figured out the mounts and water pump/fan issues but overall not a bad job at all considering this was my first motor swap.
Now that the motors in, what else needs to be addressed after the water issue? Tranny fluid looks clean, do the front and rear diffs need to be drained, refilled? As well as the wheel bearings repacked, or are they OK?
thanks for the help.
EDIT: also, alternators gauge is not showing a charge, this is a new one. Anything else I could have messed up that would prevent a charge to the battery?
