Default 91 Cherokee part time?

I took my Cherokee in the sand for the first time yesterday, at first the 4wd wasn't working. But, after I got out to the beach & shifted it out & back into 4wd, it worked. Just as we were almost done, the "part time" light came on & blinked. Not sure what is going on?

probably just needed to be moved a bit? you can still be in 4x4 with no little light on.

yeah, I figurd it could probably be in w/o the light on. Just thought it was weird, because we drove around probably an hour before the light came on. And not sure if it should blink, or stay on?
