Default 91 cherokee 77 dodge swap

ive got a 91 cherokee that i completely lost 4 lo in while out on the trail we locked 4 hi and alot of winching got me off the trail and onto the trailer in this process i smooth burnt the the tranny up so i found a 77 dodge 3/4 ton to donate its 727 and np203 as well as its dana 44 and dana 60 axles and after gettin back to the house and looking at all those vacuum line and electronics under my hood i have come to the conclusion i want to drop the 318 in as well i know that alot of guys have dropped 350s in so the 318 is nearly the same size and power the question i have is has anyone else tried the guys on pirate could only tell me drop a 302 or 350 so that doesnt help and before i get slammed on pullin a perfectly good ho 4.0 with fuel injection i plan on runnin the 318 on propane so that issue is taken care of any advice is greatly appreciated

Why did you loose 4 lo? t-case is a whole lot easier to swap then what you are thinking about doing. Also the 203 isnt the best tcase to use cause of gear ratio. It makes a great range box. Since you have a 23 spline 203, find a ford 205, or do a d300 flip and work it out.

im not sure what was the final cause of the transfer case to go but i imagine too big a tires didnt help...and yeah just switchin trannys and transfercases would be the easiest but finances wont allow a rebuild for both and buyin used has burnt me numerous times one mans good to go doesnt neccessarily translate to it actually workin so the cheapest way to go right now is to buy this runnin drivin 77 and just transplant everything ive got alot of backing for help and knowledge with my club the oklahoma trailchasers for this swap if i do get hung up ive run 318s before in other dodge trucks and loved their indestructable build ive done some pretty horrible things to a 318 and she never gave up

you say buying used has burned you numerous times? How is buying a used old dodge and swapping in all the used stuff going to be any different?

Just go to the JY, buy a t-case/tranny, rebuild the t-case on your own (they are not very complicated), flush the tranny, and call it good, unless you're getting that dodge for free (or close to it), it's going to cost less to just rebuild the t-case and tranny.

For 800 I will sell you a good trans and a t-case NOrmally if you have 4wd high.. t-case isnt bad. SOunds like you have a shift fork problem.

Also on a 91 xy the are just as easy to work on as a 318, major difference is one is on the atkins diet (no carbs) and the other needs to be put on one.

IF you want to buy the forestry truck do it, then buy a wrecked xj and get a good t-case. It is very rare that they go bad. The chain does stretch, and under EXTREMELY hard wheeling you can break the planetary, but I have yet to do that or see some one do that.

Haha, what he said.

800 is a good price for that truck though...
