Default 90xj Brake Question

I'm doing the rear brakes on my 90 xj classic. I have shoes that will work that I bought for my 88 and never used. The old shoes have a pin in the lower part of the shoe w/ a spring and adjuster lever (I don't know the proper name). I looked at all the shoes on Rockauto and they are all like the ones I intend to put on. What am I missing? Do I do away with the auto adjuster and just go manual?

Thanks

That pin is part of a Self-Adjuster Kit. You have to hammer it into the brake shoe.

The shoe has to be drilled?

I only ever replaced one set of drum brake shoes before swapping them out for discs, so by no means an expert on those, I just remember having to hammer in that pin. There was already a hole, so no need to drill, but looking through the various brake shoes listed on Rock Auto for that year, it appears that the 9" versions for the Dana 35 have the holes while the 10" versions for the Dana 44 do not...

Take a look at the other end of the brake shoes and make sure you have the primary and secondary shoes orientated correctly, but JM appears to be correct. The 3 photos are of: My 9 inch brakes prior to disassembly, new unused shoes, and a spare adjuster. As you can see the nine inch shoes have a hook that positions the adjuster on the shoe - no pin.
