Its a very small bulb and 9 of 10 the itsy-bitsy socket will crack when you twist to remove it.
I have never had one come out in one piece. It still will hold the bulb but will not keep the socket secured to the climate controls.
Fancy electrical tape usage is usually called for.

You'll see when you take it apart.

Anybody have a part number for the socket? Or has anyone replaced the socket and knows what might work?

@cruiser54 I just changed it and there was only one bulb which illuminates the entire climate control. Maybe the second one you’re thinking of is for the cigarette lighter?

Is your socket not holding the bulb in place or is the socket just not staying in the back of the HVAC?
I just changed mine but couldn’t get the radio out so I was mostly feeling my way around.
Here’s a horrible video which was my attempt to see what I was working with: https://imgur.com/a/2fMS0xD

I don’t doubt for a second that you are extraordinarily knowledgable with regard to the renix-era Jeep. However, in this particular circumstance, your assertion that there are two bulbs behind the HVAC in a 1990 is incorrect; there is only one. I’ve attached the before and after photos. The bulb as located at the top right of the unit if facing the front of the unit.

Before

After

Sorry for the late response. The socket is brittle and falling apart. I guess with some electrical tape, the bulb could stay in place, but that seems rigged up lol.

By the way, the light looks good behind the HVAC. Even lighting. Where'd you get your bulb from?
