I Have an inline 6 , and Ive got a bad switch on the brake pedal. I tried to adjust it and it still has a delay. I've almost been read ended a few times! Is this just a switch I can swap out pretty easy? Thanks in advance guys!! This is a 1990 xj / also I have no emergency brake any tips on how to adjust the cable?

BRAKE, not break. If you can adjust the switch, I'm pretty sure you can replace it.

E-brake adjustment is done under the truck. Follow the cables up from the drums and you'll see where they connect to the rod attached to the e-brake handle. From there it's pretty self-explanatory. You should need no more than a pair of wrenches and a deep socket(13mm IIRC).

I'd make sure that star wheel (X2), in the rear brakes is adjusted before I messed with the cable. (unless someone messed it up). I think it's only to account tor the cable stretching. The auto adjusters are suppose to tighten those wheels but often they don't work. If that's the case, besides the Ebrake being loose, there will also be allot of play in the pedal.

I would start with these 2 recommendations. Then if you still have a problem work from there.

Could be a case of TET or TWT. Who knows?

Brakes:
I've seen drum and disc brakes, drums and discs break, but never drum or disc breaks.

Switch on foot pedal was turned around backwards I easy fix there. And both stars on rear were way out and needed to be turned up to bring the shoes back in.
