Default 90 XJ Battery Gauge

i have a 90 XJ recently the battery gauge went down to the red so i went and bought a new battery. when i put the new battery in the battery gauge stayed in the red. i was wondering if anyone has any ideas whats going on or how to fix it. thanks in advance

If you have a Volt meter you can check to see what the alternator is putting out..

With the jeep running see how many volts are going to the battery..

Pull the gauge cluster and clean all the contacts with a big pink pencil eraser.

TEST the alternator output.

Find my writeup on testing primary electrical (it should be in OEM tech - I don't have a link handy,) and go through it.

The RENIX IP is a notorious liar. I use it more for "relative state-of-charge" than anything else, it's calibrated with a grease pencil.
