Scratch that idea. I just picked up a complete 7120 for $75 if it passes the machine shop testing.

more bad news. The other head I had checked out was also cracked in the same spot. Somewhere within cylinder 5 and 6. I am not sure what to do. I might just start looking for a replacement motor.......

JY time. Find a couple heads and pull them. Get them both checked and rebuild a good one. Save or sell the other. If this is the only issue with your motor I would just find a good head.

As far as I know, that is the only issue I have. It just sucks that it was running then all of a sudden.... BAM.... nothing. I called the local junkyard and they couldnt give me a price on a head or an engine over the phone. LKQ offered me a engine with 150k miles for $900 with a warranty and a 7120 casting head for $200.

$900 for a motor seems steep. Master rebuild kit with head would cost less.

new motor found. Picked up a '91 4.0 for $350. Had 130lbs of compression all the way down the line.

So you're gonna put an HO engine where a Renix was.

Use your manifolds, flywheel/flexplate, dizzy and sensors. Be sure to remove a coolant passage plug on the driver's side of the 91 motor so you can install your CTS. The plug is a 5/16 square drive. Use an intake/exhaust gasket for the 90 to insure good sealing between the head and manifolds.
When removing the old engine, loosen the top 2 engine to bellhousing bolts first.

Alot more work. TPS works opposite. HO dizzy not compatible with Renix ECU so I don't know how that would work. CPS works differently therefore they don't run with an HO flywheel and Renix CPS.

Having done 2 of these, I see no benefit and a bunch more work to do it any other way.
