Default 90 exhaust manifold on a 96?

Like the title states, will it work? I picked up this 90s manifold off craigslist and was told it was from a 1994 but research shows it's from a 90.

It has 2 bungs in the lower half. One had a broken o2 sensor and the other was empty. My 96 only has the 1 o2 sensor in the "down pipe" and one in the cat.

Can I use this manifold on my 96 and just plug the 1 extra hole in the manifold and instal my o2 sensor into the second bung then run the 90s "down pipe" over to my cat?

Here's what I have from craigslist ...

This is what the stock one on my cherokee is.

My thoughts are plug the second hole throw my o2 sensor in the manifold use a down pipe for a 90s cherokee and be on my way!!!

If you plan on installing this exhaust manifold on your '96 buy a '96 intake/exhaust gasket from the dealer and match it up with the '90 manifold and compare the differences are in the exhaust openings. Unfortunately you can't compare the intake ports this way.

The dealer gasket isn't that much more than aftermaket gaskets and are a perfect fit.

I tried Felpro on my '99 and the ports were off register so I couldn't use it.

Edit: I don't think it will work anyway.

You would need a new down pipe for that to work, the outlet angles are waaaaaaaay off. I just did the other way on my 88, 94 exhaust and 92 head on my 88 block. No way was the stock Renix exhaust layout gonna mate to that HO manifold.
Any 87-90 4.0 owner would likely swatch that up quick fast though.

For sure 90 has only one 02 sensor, so that is not from a 90. Just might work with the right gasket and a new header pipe....don't know though. In any case the thickness of the flange needs to be the same as the intake.

I wonder if stock 97-99 has two, 1 for front 3 cyls, 1 for rear 3, and that after-market header just put the two together? Idk.

And/or...00 and 01 non CA Smog, without the dual forward cats may well have two bungs. If that's the case they won't fit.

The split cast manifold started in 00, it was a two part manifold. Depending on date a 00 still only had 2 O2 sensors.
91-99 is just like the second picture.
O2 sensor is in the down pipe for HO and on the manifold for Renix.
The earlier Renix exhaust manifold (first picture) will work if you make a new pipe from outlet to Cat. It will not mate up to your current stock exhaust. And the HO header is a better layout anyway.

Renix has only one. 00-01 CA smog, have duel cat's up front with 4 02 sensors. That's about all I'm pretty sure of!

Well my 2000 XJ had one up front, and one behind the cat. That much I know is fact. I removed the stock dual cast manifolds and cracked 0331 head in 05. The 01's all had the dual cats, but only some 00's had them, most did not. When I dropped the 93 head on top I used the manifold in the second picture. Just had to relocate the sensor bung.
My 88 MJ exhaust pipe would need to have been bent 45 degrees and lengthened about 1-2" to have mated to the 94 HO manifold I used (used a 98 down pipe to replace mine to the cross member).

Hey guys this ended up working just fine. I plugged the upper bung, installed a new o2 sensor in the lower bung. Purchased the crossover pipe for a 1990. A 20" universal fit muffler and then a tail pipe section for a 96. Everything went together fine and it's super quiet now, has a little throatyness to it due to the cat being gone but sounds great!!!

Nick, hit the edit button and delete your comments on the cat. Violating forum rules may get you banned! (Glad you got her working sweet).

Thanks for the heads up! I guess I missed that part when reading the rules!
