Default 89 Trans issues

So i just got my Jeep to pass inspection, but there is an issue with my Trans, its the auto (i hate it), when I put it in drive it feels like its starting in 4th, motor revs up good, but it takes me almost 100 yards to get up to 25 mph... So I've been starting in my lower gears and pushing it up like I'm driving an old auto clutch, just so i can get up to speed, there are a few vacuum lines that are cracked, could that be part of my issue?

Could be as simple as a bad connection in the electrical feed to the Trans Control Unit. Look up under the passenger side dash below the fusebox for a connector in yellow tape. check that fuse.

Listen to Cruiser!! This guys knows his ****! I just went through some tranny shifting issues and he helped me figure it all out. Don't worry about vac lines there are none related to the tranny. Check the fuse under your glove box by the TCU first if blown replace and also clean the plug that it goes into. If that doesn't get you shifting right we'll help you with what to check next. And don't worry in most cases this should be well under $100 bucks to get you running right.

PS: the fuse may be wrapped in black tape as well like my 89' was.

If this were my Jeep, I would do as Black89 says about the fuse.

And I would click on the Pink Link in my signature below and do the procedures in posts # 1,3, and 10. #5 would be good also.
