My 1989 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 auto is giving me headaches...the tranny is not changing gears good. I have to rev the engine up and let off the gas for it to change gears.
I also have a backfiring problem (sometimes) and missing (sometimes) but only when accelerating. It will idle fine without any missing at all. I changed the plugs and wires and the fuel pump and also the brain.
No success yet. I am getting ready to change the distributor cap and rotor.
It seems to run different every time I start it and take off.
Now the engine wants to die when I slow down or come to a stop. I have even a few instances when I was out and it wouldnt start back for about 5 minutes..and then it would start and go on.
