Default 89 jeep cherokee wiper motor?

My wiper motor goes 1/4 way then stops, push them down and only go 1/4 way again, then you can hear the motor clicking all the time. You can see the motor jump each time it clicks.I,ve read all the search stuff but nothing about the clicking noise. They are not intermittent wipers

the motor constantly spins, moving the arms back and forth. Sounds like
the linkage is slipping "clicking" on the motor.

but why does it go so far and quit and you can,t pull or push it to help.I,m thinking is the motor but just want some input, maybe it isn,t the motor.I took out the relay in the fusebox and jumped it with a wire but same thing

Sounds like the brushes inside the gearbox. If you remove the motor from the vehicle you'll see a cover held on with screws where the wires enter the housing. Carefully remove this cover & you'll see how these brass brushes make contact with the gear wheel. The contact areas are prone to gumming up with grease from the gear wheel. Clean with electrical cleaner & a Q-tip. You may also have a brush that is broken off. You'll see what I mean once you're in there. Mine refused to park and it was a broken brush. No way to fix those without replacing the motor. If yours are not damaged be carefull when cleaning to prevent breakage as this is thin brass which is prone to crack. Hope this helps.

Remove the motor with all the linkage and pivots. It's easier than trying to unbolt just the motor itself. Good chance it's that the bolts have loosened up on the motor.....

Right on the money cruiser, took it all out and one bolt was backed off enought to stop the wiper arm 1/4 way. Here is a good page for removal for others.https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/wip...-92982/index2/
