Picking a couple up today thanks.
I have to ask, which I kinda did earlier...eliminating the heater control valve...I have AC..does the AC still work ok?
Sorry...had to ask, Ive seen other posts saying it doesnt work well but want your guy's opinion.
Thanks.

I don't have an opinion. Only facts. I've done this mod heater valve elimination on over a dozen early XJs and MJs. I live in Arizona. All those Jeeps have AC.
The AC outlet temp is anywhere from 38* to 42* on a hot day. All are running 134a on original R12 systems .
So, there's two myths I've shot to hell, eh?

As stated earlier, it shouldn’t really matter as long as you have no leaks. I believe the two connections are different sizes, though. From memory, the hose from the tstat housing is 3/4” and connects to the top heater core connection. The hose coming off the water pump is 5/8” and connects to the bottom heater core connection. Either way the fitting size should let you know which hose goes where.

Water pump to bottom. Thermostat housing to top.
Easy way to remember. Low goes to low and high goes to high.

Well, finished this morning. Took a couple days in between all the other crap I had to do.
Radiator (with cap)
Waterpump
New later model thermostat neck and new thermostat
Clutch fan
New hoses
Flush
New overflow bottle etc.
Etc.
Pretty easy...just getting everything taken apart was the time consumer. If done again...couple 3 hours maybe. VERY worth doing, highly recommend it, thanks to all the thread contributers for all the help.
I may have a heater core leak, I flushed and accidently sprayed water/coolant all over the firewall area ( dont ask) so dont know if it leaked thru or I truly have a leak...but after running for a couple hours I dont see anything...yet. If it happens Ill have to loop the hoses and bypass it I guess till I have the courage to tackle it.
Couple pics of the heap..
