Is it possible to do away with the valve put in a manual valve and leave at one flow. Adjust as necessary. Have to replace all hoses heater and radiator. Was able to cut a few plugs and clamp and tape. Jeep at camp now . Thanks Ken well no more than usual

When that valve breaks, most people just leave it off. They either get longer hoses or they use a short piece of tubing and hose clamps (that's what I did).

I knew you were in upper MI when you said "at camp", lol.
Scott's right, that valve breaks easily and most folks just get rid of it, plumbing the heater core directly. Doesn't seem to be any downside to doing that, in fact later XJ's rolled out of the factory that way, sans valve.

Thanks will be eliminated it.Probably good thing it happened, all hoses were

in bad shape. time for replacement. I was able to pull all the hoses off

except for lower rad.hose ran out of time. reserge tank off also. Will get the

hoses and figure out how I want to run them . That metal piping between

resugre tank and rad just eliminate or cut ends off and add hoses to them?

It is in rough shape body wise but motor and drive train no problems. Drivers seat has to be replaced hope I can fit my cirrus bucket seat in it. My rt.hip is sore from it. Had no dash lights shift lever or 4-wheel lights for quite a while. I hit a few rough spots in road hard the other night now all are working. I'm no mech or any darn thing but my son does have the knack. He sure as hell didn't get it from me. Nice to see how others are doing what I never could. Attention span is what gets me. Now the darn memory is starting too. Ken

Almost finished doing all my hoses, radiator+ grommets, expansion tank, Volvo cap, and heater valve on my 89 XJ. I highly recommend ordering your hoses and metal t from TeamCherokee.com. WAY cheaper ($55 for all the hoses, clamps, and t) and easier to source than buying it all separately. I got the new heater valve at rock auto but later noticed team Cherokee had that too. Just an FYI to a fellow renix XJ owner.

I have a pet peeve with those valves. Bumped one with my elbow while working under the hood on a hot engine, and it burst apart spraying me with hot coolant.

to town for my meeting celebrated 31 years of sobriety on the 30th. Will be hopefully picking up hoses then if price isn't to out of touch. Have a price to go by as long as its in the ball park I'm ok. Thanks again all. Have bee working on wood at camp for the coming season . Glad its just for camp heat and steam bath or Sauna. As far as those valves go? When you least expect it. I just happened to look out at my XJ and saw a small patch of coolant on the ground. Hadn't been under the hood for sometime so it wasn't like I bumped it. Luckily it happened at home as the wife was going to Winchester,Va (a 60mi one way trip) the next day.

Use the diagram below and just eliminate that plastic piece of junk. Plug the vacuum line to it with a screw.

got everything will take sawzall to cut clamps so I can put new heater hoses

on> no I won't be cutting on heater core on the piece between heater and rad

and antifreeze tank . Wife taking me out to camp, probably because it is more

peaceful at home when I am out there. Thanks all and thanks for the tip on V.

used hacksaw to cut clamps got the hoses on except for lower rad. hose. Will

do that one in town. Seems like there are 2 different size heater hoses. One

that goes in bottom of tank is not 5/8s but was able to find a chunk of hose in

wood shed that fit tank but not so sure other end is tight at clamp. on heater

**** one of them also bigger than 5/8s. Will redo the metal pipework in town

and Make up something that will work

To top if off misplaced the darn jeep keys so tore camp apart and no find them.

So don't know if my patch job will work yet. Will have to redo part of it

anyway just hope it hold for 15 or 20 miles. Get it home anyway. Rained all

the time on and off. Kept my cool never swore once even . I'm getting ready

for Sainthood. Ha ha St. Ken the Finnish Genius Be back to Camp Tuesday

Hoses are 5/8 and 11/16. But with a little lube, 5/8 will work for both. Buy six feet of 5/8 and replace both hoses without the valve.

mine isn't as simple the resupply tank or what ever on firewall that you add your antifreeze to it seems the bottom of tank nipple is larger and where it feeds into metal pipe junction box smaller. same as coming off heater core and where it hits a junction smaller diameter. Just hope it doesn't leak until I get it fixed right.On heater core I was afraid of busting the nipple forcing the 5/8 hose on. I could force the 5/8 on plastic tank but on only a 3/4 inch or so. With the larger hose I found it fit tight on tank and core but where it attached to junction I think my be not tight enough. Can't tell til I get my keys found and spare set is hiding also...I topped it off with water in case it leaks when ever I get it started again. no sense wasting good antifreeze. Have trouble with cell phone signal but certain areas around will work good, at camp hit and miss . wife pulled in today when I was trying to call her. Ken
