Default 88 xj concerns please help

First off this is my first post, so please bear with me.

88 xj 2wd 4.0 160k miles

Ok so after yanking off the intake manifold and exhaust to replace the gasket which was extremely leaky i came across some concerns with my injectors. First off i pulled the injectors from the intake manifold so i can blast all the crap out of it (oil of course) i noticed that there was one injector that wasnt quite right. 5 injectors were them same and one did not look to have a hole in it. Here is pics
5 injectors look like this:

the one injector (3rd from the front) looks like this:

I tried taking a toothpick lightly to it but did not want to damage anything so i figured i would let the experts chime in. It also looks like this is not a factory injector. I have a back up one but do not know if it is good or not.

Anyway what is your take on this?

scenario #2
pulling valve cover off since PO did a terrible job of reinstalling. Found sludge. I have never owned a vehicle that has had sludge. any recommendations or suggestions for removal? I am on a strict budget right now so any advice will be helpful. Also when i shut off the motor i an hear the oil draining back into the oil pan like its peeing...normal? clogged oil passage ways? here is some pics under the valve cover:

help me out guys thanks

you got to remember its a 88 to remove the sludge use a shop vac to suck up all the loose stuff you dont want stuff falling down into the oil returns and into the pan thus clogging the oil pump screen

From the pic that injector definitely looks clogged. You could get it rebuilt, but that costs about the same as a set of new injectors (plus downtime). Injectors run $28 each at rockauto.com.

Sludge is not easy to deal with. Oil sludges when it gets overheated. Switch to a “CF” rated oil, which has a higher level of ester and detergent. It should get that sludge cleaned up after a few thousand miles. Rotella, Delvac and Mobil-1 will work. There has been some talk on bobistheoilguy.com that Red Line oil (ester based) will work well for cleaning but I’ve never tried it. I CAN say, based on experience, that two 3,000 mile changes of Delvac on an extremely sludged Hyundai cleaned it up, and amazingly, “fixed” a horrendous oil leak from the front crank seal.

ok got everything back together. What a nightmare. The entire intake manifold was caked in oil internally and black frosted flake deposits internally as well. Pulled the valve cover and pulled the ccv tubes and the flappers were completely clogged with crunchy crap also. I spent more time cleaning than it took for teardown and reassembly for the manifold gasket.

what year injectors for the dodge neon work on the jeep? I am going to replace all the injectors because they are mismatched and who knows what the PO was smoking. I have found many way passed backyard fixes that just shouldnt have been done.

thanks for the help so far guys

I got a smoking deal on reman injectors from these guy's. Totally impressed with service, lead time packaging and performance.

Crap I just noticed they're not listing the ones I got anymore, maybe ask them if they can still do the quad jet upgrades, I think I paid about 110.00
