I just bought an 88 cj wagoneer. Wondering if anyone can give me some adcive on the trans. 1. What trans is in it? 2. Forward gears work great reverse is a little iffy. Itll engage and go but it acts like its not fully engaging doesnt act like its slipping. Im thinking of just replacing it and rebuilding this one unless its a reasonable fix.

 

Should be an AW4 auto

 

Those trannies are kinda bullet proof.
Drain and refill the fluid and use only Dex/Merc fluid, not the chrysler crap.

Adjust the throttle valve cable!!
