well the new napa tps is in and adjusted from the engine side. it fixed my high idle on start up but Im still running very high rpms at highway speeds. I wonder if im running high rpms at all speeds? 3rd gear at 1500 rpms im going 30, 4th great at 1600rpms im going 45, any thing above 50 im well above 2200, it was even at 2900 going 75
what else could be the cause? any other grounds? could it be worn piston rings? I think my compression is crap
I also got my second cps(this time from napa) keepin my fingers crossed this one doesn't crap out too
thanks for all the help

Sometimes I'll put mine in 3rd coming down a hill at highway speed to save a little brakes. Later if I notice my rpm is high, it reminds me to put it back in drive. Idk if that relates, but I see you mention 3'rd and not drive.
That's one I don't fully get.."drive" locks the torque converter with that (third) solonoid?
I don't have a tack, but 2,900 at 75 doesn't alarm me...
The connectors to your trans solenoids are there rear of the dipstick, the grey maybe. No harm in cleaning those....(the other, black, is the NSS). If I have that right.

also-im on 31's and stock gearing, shouldn't that lower the rpms at highway speeds?

Try # 10 in my tips.
Did you know the "trans shift logic" circuit grounds at the engine dipstick tube stud, along with the TCU itself?
That's covered in post #1.

Yea, larger wheels will lower your RPM's at all speeds. Don't forget it will also make your speedo and odometer under read as well. You can google conversion charts. I prefer to use % age. For instance mine reads 4% under, so 50 mph on the speedo is really 52. If the odometer says I went 100 miles, I really went 104 miles.
I just use the county sign posts on long trips to figure where I'm at. Any two might be off so I use two or three 10-20 mile segments for what I guess to be a somewhat accurate figure. If what you get squares with a mile in a minute, and those road-side radar signs, it's got to be pretty close.

How's your tranny fluid look and smell? My 89 was shifting really strange and not down shifting. Fluid was toast. Golden brown and burnt smell. I dropped 4 quarts add 4 quarts and just that was a mass improvement. My next 4 quarts are getting dropped tonight. Then the whole works and a filter.
