I already own the 88 and the body is SHOT so I was trying to save myself the cost of a new/rebuilt head since I have one already...I'm a toolmaker/fabricator so I'm sure I can handle a replica mount or figure out how to mount it especially if there is a tutorial

Oh ****! maybe Renagade was right. Maybe there IS a change in the manifolds for 2000 that is an issue for the earlier. I'm sure Renix, and the 90's swap, but when I started looking at coil pack Ideas I saw some stuff saying the manifolds are indeed different.

Found this>>

Give this thread a read https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/2000...-knock-123979/ ( <<if you skip to post 47...and 52 there's stuff) a fellow MD forum member is going through a cracked head issue now on her '00, we are about to drop a '94 head on it. You have to use the '00-'01 exhaust manifold because of the pre-cats in there or else there's a lot of EGR crap to deal with. There's a guy who make an adapter to use older heads with the newer manifolds. All the info is in the thread I linked above

Alright so a 91-95 head..can I swap exhaust header from 88 to that head? Or are there not threads for sensors that I need on it?

Boy. I should almost butt-out as your head is almost over mine! 2000 on is indeed a different cridder. The 91-99 do indeed swap with the earlier maifolds.

Now...for smog inspection, and the electronics....there you might have problems. If somebody were to be able to help with that, I suppose one of the first questions would be does the 2000 have the two pre cats with 4-02 sensors? Or, what DOES it have?

The electronics for the 2000, with a 91-99 manifold might result in a light on, is what I wondering/getting at.

The interface between Renix and 91-99 exhaust downpipe and manifold is in a differnet place, I think the Renix manifold is shorter and has the O2 sensor in the downpipe. The O2 sensor on an HO is in the manifold...or maybe I got that backwards ..but they are different. You could swap manifold and downpipe....oh wait you have the 2000 with dual pre-cats and 02 sensors. Hmmm...good luck

Yea, exactly. 2000 on, is an issue. And . Oops, you were correct earlier.

And right, that's backwards. At least I'm sure my Renix 02 sensor is in the manifold.

(btw when we say "pre cats", than might be a misnomer, not sure there IS another. )

I've made a decision.. I'm selling the 88 as is and and buying the 00... swapping the 33s from the 88 to the 00 and buying an aftermarket head. Ill run the 33s ln stock height until I can get bastard pack and springs/spacers.. its more of a dd than off road...probably start a build thread after I get everything squared away with buying and selling. Thank you guys for the replies and knowledge I've gained

lol I've seen a few arguments/disagreements while I've been trolling this site and the practical machinist one... I can somewhat gather the true information from the "common" sense but I'm npt the most mechanically inclined person

Ha, very funny. I did have to read the other 51 posts to get to post #52.(on page#4) https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/2000...-knock-123979/

Anyway I learned something myself, so thanks! Yea, makes sense to me to go with the head that fits that screwy exhaust! Should work well. Cup holders, 4/$, and so stylish!

Thought I'd add some "reliable" info from a pro here, regarding putting HO manifolds on a Renix.
"The exhaust manifold will work with modifications.
The intake manifold will be more of an issue. If you have a Renix Jeep and want to use the later intake, be in for some work. The throttle bodies and TPSs are different. Power steering pump mounting is different."

Right on. I went with the same designer for this custom clock mount. I have three miles of washboard, straight up. Clock is fine. Jeep is crumbling! But hey, 10 years of that....

I gather the 0331's crack right in the middle. I've seen posted photos of both a line of green coolant, and pics of a line of whitish deposits, right under the oil filler cap! At least that's one common place.
