Wondering if there is a way to get a motor without trans to start. My buddy is looking at a 88 xj with the trans and t case out of it. He wants to know if there is a way to get it started. Any ideas or comments would help him. Thanks

You will have to trick the Neutral Safety Switch into thinking it is OK to start. After that, it should be fairly easy. You can start an engine without the transmission, but it will not go anywhere!!

You will also have to put the NSS in the neutral position.
Keep it off, obviously, since there is no tranny, and have your buddy try starting it. While he is starting it, turn the NSS slowly, til it cranks.
If it starts, and runs... that is a good sign. lol.
Its an automatic, right?
