Emission failed, says pressure failed because of carbon canister, also called charcoal canister. I can't find one to fit my model and year, 1988 Laredo 4.0.6clyl. Any ideas?

Did they actually inspect the canister itself and tell you it was leaking?
If not, carefully inspect the canister and all the lines connecting it. One line leads back to the air cleaner box. They are supposed to pinch the line before pressurizing the fuel system. You should also do a "smoke test" to verify the lines are intact.
You can have a look at this one:

Says 87-90 but it does look a bit different than the one on my '88,

On this test they will pressurize the fuel tank from the filler spout. this tests the evap system for leaks, this includes the tank, the hoses both for gasoline and for vapors, up to the charcoal can. In order to pressurize the system, the vent hose after the charcoal can need be plugged. then the test can proceed. if the pressure leaks out too fast, it fails. cracked canister, torn hoses, torn hose ends are typical failures. If they I.d.ed the can specifically then they must have seen the crack or confirm the leak was from the can. Then again maybe they didnt check the can and actually found a crack, rather they are just assuming it is the can, when it may simply be a torn hose, or hose that fell off.
Ask the shop to point out the crack or hole in the can before you decide to replace it. Else you maybe replacing it for no reason, and still have a leak elsewhere.
good luck

Depending on the state you live in you may not even have to do the emission test due to its age, check the requirements of your state. I live in Texas and if your vehicle is 25 years old, you only have to do the safety inspection. I have a 88 XJ which has been getting only the safety inspection. My wifes is a 96 XJ, and is 25 this year so only the safety inspection was done.

That's a bummer. If there are other inspection places try one of them.
I bought my Jeep new in 1988 and had the windshield tinted. One inspection station in the early 2000's passed me but said I needed to trim the tint back 1 inch to be legal, I just thought to myself "You must be having a bad day, I'm not trimming it back" and I didn't. From then on I go to another place and it hasn't been questioned. The tint has never been questioned by anyone but that one inspector.
