My jeep runs good when driving (In drive) but as soon as you put it into reverse it cuts out at around 1.5k rpm and wont go any higher if you give it more gas and try to push it while its in reveres it will eventually die.Ive lifted up all four wheels off the ground to check for any binding issues and seems to be none at all everything spins freely. Has anyone had this issue?

Vehicle info
-88 Cherokee 4x4 157k miles
-Automatic Trans
-3.5in lift on 31s

That's just wrong. Have another problem please. The e-brake might grab going forward and not back. Bad grounds can do odd things, and this is odd. Might wonder if it's somehow related to the reverse lights. They are back by the fuel pump. Practical joke? Did someone connect your reverse light wire to your fuel pump ground?

Someone on one of the forums found their engine to bell housing bolts loose causing this very same problem.

But, refresh all your grounds just cuz you probably never have.

Very interesting cruiser, By the By, there is a cruiser on Onan, Any relation?
Maybe check those bolts before doing anything! Also a thought, check, (or add) your engine to body ground. Maybe it's grounding through a mount that disconnects in reverse.

No relation on Onan. I like your idea on checking the bolts and adding an engine to body ground. I like running a cable from the engine dipstick tube stud, while refreshing the connectors there of course, and running that cable to the 8mm stud on the passenger inner fender just below the upper shock mount.

Years ago my Dad had a little Jap car, Yellow with a bee on it. It lost enough ground that the throttle cable all but vaporized when he turned the key! Wonder what the (charging indicator) would be doing with the engine not grounded.

True story. Datsun B210. I worked in Parts and Service at a Datsun dealership in Northern California.

It was quite common for someone to come in carrying their accelerator cable that had all the plastic melted and stuck to the metal cable. The vehicles had a poor engine to ground so the ground ran through the cable, which was way to small to ground something like a starter, and melted down..

If it was Santa Rosa, in the 80's, I might have been one of them!

I take it you checked the engine to bell-housing bolts, and tried it with an added engine to chassy ground and that was of no help? It's not your E-brake grabbing, and you checked your sensor grounds? Then we are no help YET! (But trying). Please pardon our chat, It WAS a little rude of me.

I do think it is safe to say nobody knows what's wrong with your Jeep. At least you have forward!

Whoops! Bad E-brake idea...Dyslexic?

I'm with Flintstone on this. It's been a week since you last posted. Have you tried any of the suggestions you've been given or are you waiting for one that just suits you?
