I use to have poor fuel economy then a Dutchman gave me these instructions and it seems to do wonders.

Try changing your plug leads if you have not done it in 50K (champion R recommended there is a jeep kit fits 100%) makes a huge change, bosch 4 point plugs and get rid of the factory air cleaner K&N air ram while your at it penzoil sin 10-30 for the next 10K also need to dump the cat ang free flow the beast but have not gotten that far yet. PS do not put a separate breather on the valve cover it needs to go back into the intake air or it will mess oil all over the place when you go for the clean out run(dont ask how I know this)
you know the biggest secret an absolute caning (160km/h for a few Km make it work) every now and then to clean the valves works for me.

While we are at it does jeeps always feel like the engine has to do a lot of work almost like the gearbox is inefficient work?

spark plug lead/wire from distributor cap to spark-plug: the leads wear out as time goes by they do not have metal cores, normally have a carbon coated fiber. Thats why the champion R was recommended it has a stainless steel core suppose to last much longer and get more spark (voltage) to the plug.

The other thing I have changed was the fuel filter but I doubt this has anything to do with fuel economy. I want to build an aluminum snorkel as my next project aka cold air intake ala corne

Change your injectors to 4 hole insyead of the crappy 1 hole. You will get better mpg's.

my 87 downshifts alot sooner with the power switch in the on position. the light doesn't work but whatever makes it shift is working. i tried it out and it was a noticeable shift difference when the switch is in the on position.

just take it on the highway and floor it in the off position, you really have to put it down to make it shift. then put the button in the on position and floor it. you will be able to tell because it shifts before its all the way down. my wife complains about the feeling of hte jeep being slow when passing and stuff, i think i will turn on the button and take her around for a bit and see if she likes it better that way.

I stick to things I know Bosch has treated me well over the years they refer to it as a high performance injector aka "4 port"

I forgot to mention this was another change I had done with the rest of the work.
