Default 87 Wagoneer vacuum issues

Finally got to the vacuum bottle inside the bumper today and replaced some of the line that was leaking and I had perfect blower directional control for about five minutes when i put some throttle to it then it went back to defrost which I thought was odd so I took it out for a drive only to have it lose all vacuum to the H-vac/cruise and a rougher idle.

I will say i had to pour water out of the bottle and I upgraded from vacuum hose to fuel hose so it wouldn't collapse.. anyone got any ideas?

The bottle is most likely trashed if there was water in it.

****... Would explain the excessive noise coming from it.. Would you go back to stock or upgrade it to something better?

Stock is fine.

Ever think about relocating it to the engine bay and eliminating all the possibility of potential leaky lines?

That was going to be my next question actually.

I have to replace the lines going to the factory coolant system thanks to a small plastic valve that goes into the heater core crumbling in half when I moved one of the lines so I sawed it off to the metal and slipped the hose over it as a temp fix. I am just gonna upgrade all the cooling lines, thermostat and water pump just to be safe as well.

DO NOT replace the heater valve. It's unnecessary, and as you know, a real hazard. Make your "temp" repair permanent.

Yep. Plug it off and stick it up under a harness on the firewall.

I have a particular dislike for those valves, aside from the obvious.

Pulled my wife's 88 in for an oil change. In the process of removing the filter, I bumped the valve with my elbow or arm. It split wide open and drenched my face and head with 195* coolant. No signs of a leak previous to that. Good thing I wear glasses!!!

I was moving the hose on the pressurized system when it was running because i was attempting to find the vac leak and as soon as it got some pressure on it a nice hot spray of prestone up my arm! there is also no vac coming off the line going to where the valve use to be but im guessing theres not enough vack since the pressure bottle is busted. Should I worry about the black line that goes in next to it into the fire wall? -will snap a few photos later

The black one is the source of vacuum for your heater AC vents from the black ball. Keep it for sure.

Oh! My mind doesn't like to work until the second cup of coffee in the morning!

It might be a little bit of a tight fit for my pill looking canister,I got told a old coffee can would be a good temp fix.. but I don't think I will be following that friends advice
