I have a 85 Cherokee that busted off the ring gear teeth. What all years will work in it? I'm having trouble finding the correct year for it by interchange.

Well it depends on what you want to do.... you can put a dana 35 ( what it came with back under), upgrade to a chrysler 8.25 ( newer model of cherokees). Of these two there basically bolt on, all you would have to change out from one of the other is the u-bolts. Make sure the the gear ratio is the same for both differentials (front and back)

First off, what gear ratio is the current rearend? Gotta know that first.

That's why you're having trouble finding one. The bulk of the XJs from 87 to 2001 had 3.55s.

Quick answer is 84 to 2001 could FIT, but not unless they have 3.73 gears will they function properly.
