Default 80-90 in the diffs?

I was told by 3 differrent guys in a jeep club here in my town that they run 80-90 gear oil in their diffs. Is that ok and good to use? I don't tow much.

Yeah, in your climate you should be good to go. Up here in the rust belt, I use 75W-140 Syn.

I believe the 75-140 is the suggested weight for towing.

I believe that to be true too, I run Valvoline 75-90 synthectic. VV975. But then I do not tow.

Good timing on this thread. I was reading the back of the 80-90 bottle and it says it could be used for the pots as the "main" and since I have limited slip in the rear, I'd have to "top off" with 75-140 syn in place of the friction modifier. I don't tow.

Any thoughts on this? I think both are Walmart's SuperTech or whatever it's called. Anyone had any experience with this oil?
