8.8 is an OEM on a Ford Explorer but needs some mods to work with an XJ. Thus if you were thinking that the 8.8 was a bolt in you will be very disappointed.

If you can weld go for it. Spring perches and shock mounts.... and you'll need to mess with the e brake cable.

Who uses ebrakes anymore? There is quite a bit of work to do to get a 8.8 to work in a XJ.

i can weld, i can fab brackets and parts as needed. ain't scared to rip Stih apart, but it is a DD so i have to have a game plan before i tear it down, and has to be done over the course of a weekend. thats what my question was. A pictoral would be great. take out the guess work and give me a guideline to go by.

I believe there's a write up in tech write ups here. You can get the 8.8 ready then when your cherokees down to do the swap it'll bolt in. Just use the write up to be sire you have everything. That's one of the first things I'm going to do when I get my licence back.
