Default 8.8 disk brake conversion

so im getting my hands on a free 8.8 this weekend that has drum brakes. since ill be refurbishing it with gears, locker, paint, install kit, etc......what about changing it to disk brakes?

anyone got information on what to use and how to convert the drum 8.8 to a disk setup?

Thanks!

all the info i found on here via search was for 8.25 or D35.

Default 8.8 drum to disk

I imagine it'll be a lot of work.....

That 8.8 could be trade material though..... you might check with the local junkyards and see if you could swap it (and a bit of cash) for an 8.8 with disks.

I think you'd still come out better that way, than the expense of converting.



I built 2 cherokees with 8.8s and factory disks under them.

I spent $200 for one that had 3.50 gears. I had to buy a carrier and 4.10s.

The other 8.8 was $300, but already had 4.10s and a limited slip.

Can you do a conversion for less money?

what im trying to find out....even if its the same cost ill do it, just for the sake of doing it. ill have the time while i work on getting gears and both lockers.

well, good luck with your decision there......

I will say that I've been pleased with the 2 conversions I've done. The 8.8 makes for a good swap. The differential covers are wimpy though (experience talkin')
