Yeah your right, to an extent... But I just read from wikipedia "Late-1996 – 2001*: Chrysler 8.25", c-clip, non-ABS, 29-spline axleshafts." "1997 – 2001*: Dana 35, c-clip, ABS." but I haven't really owned the jeep long enough to know which axel I have or if I have abs lol

you can check that way or just check underneath the back seat where your jack storage is... thats where the abs module would be i think if there is nothing back there and you dont have an abs light id bet its safe to say you dont have abs

I was gonna swap my gear into my new axle then I heard that there isn't much diferance between a dana 35 or a dana 44 for my 44 inch boggers so I'll keep the dana 35 and go off road. Did you hear that one too?Name: rofl[1].gif

also its unlikely to come across one but the kj (liberty) has an 8.25 29 spline that is rumored to fit an xj and you gain rear disc brakes
Nope the disc brakes transfer right over though I bet thats what you heard.

I have a 96 with the 8.25 and now I am wondering about it's durability. I run good a/t tires because I occasionally go off road and right now they are stock but I am thinking of going to 31's. When I bought the truck I was pleased to see a C8.25 instead of the d35 but I didn't know that the spline counts were different between the years. How much better is the C8.25 over a d35?

dont worry about axle strength if your only running 31s it can handle it easy
