I am looking at buying this axle. It is supposed to have only 2000 miles on new gears, locker and rebuild, but the axles ends and pinion look like they are leaking from the pics. He said it is PB blaster. What are everyones thoughts about this? Does this like it is leaking to you?

how much? what kind of locker? 27 spline or 29 spline? does he have receipts for the work done?
and looks like it leakin from the pinion yolk seal but thats an easy fix, and probably coming from axle tube ends bucause he has too much fluid in it due to the higher fill plug.... score on already having the disk brakes on it though...but how are the rotors/pads?

It is def. leaking from the cover. Make sure it actually has what he says it has inside, pull the cover and inspect the gears and locker. Whats the asking price??

I can see them now.
Looks like it could be PB, but what the hell was he spraying? It seems like the only thing that I would spray on there would be the caliper bolts, and they're dry.
It's really rusty, and It would take a bit of work to make it look good again, ie. sand blasting/wire wheeling the whole axle and calipers and caliper brackets, etc.
The pinion is definitely leaking, and it takes a bit of knowledge to replace that, ie crush sleeves and rolling torque.
The drain plug it also obviously leaking and leaking bad enough that you can see that its still wet.

the how much question is the biggest for me........ if its cheap enough even having to reseal it isnt a big deal if its already got a locker and gears and the disc brakes.
That axle seal leak looks awfully junked up to be PB blaster...... PB blaster isnt going to gum up like gear oil. I would ask for receipts also for the work done.

He only wants 300 for it and supposedly it has 4.56 gears and a no-slip locker along with the disk conversion....a steal if it is in good shape, but I don't really want to have to rebuild it right out of the gate. I have an 8.25 stock, but am rebuilding my front and was going to go ahead and regear if I got this axle as I figured it was a cheap way to get a built rear.

I would take it. Plastic plug on dif cover is cheap almost free. I assume its PB at the ends, but maybe brake fluid. I dont know. Did you rub your finger across and give it a taste. Kind of like a lady, you shoudl taste before you buy.
