Default $ 8.00 freon cans

Just thought I would share this with the crowd. I found freon for 8 bucks a can at Big Lots. At the gouge-zone it's 14.99. Don't know if it's regional or not but it's worth looking into if you start working on your a/c this time of year

Dollar General has it for $10. And we can buy it legally in Wisconsin again! (new law this month)

There is a 10 dollar core charge for the can and you need to buy an adaptor for 3 bucks to fit the new cans. Still a great deal after you take the empty cans back.

Are you talking about the R-12 or the 134a?

Sounds pretty sweet. I paid $45 a couple years ago for two cans in a (previously messed with), kit deal from Napa. The "friendly" stuff. Freon? really? The 1%'rs are building underground bunkers. Maybe ozone depletion is "in" again. Guess it's proven reversible.

134a. Federal law prohibits purchasing R12 without a license, no?
Wisconsin banned private-party sale of 134a for quite a while too, until this month.

Banned 134a, what were you allowed to use then? R-12 FTW

It was a silly law.
Wisconsin banned individuals from buying r134a so we had to go to a shop to get the A/C recharged. Can't have us amateurs releasing the stuff into the atmosphere.
...But you could buy all the "computer duster" spray cans and portable air horns you want, filled with <drum roll> r134a! Designed of course to be sprayed directly into the atmosphere...

Some creative plumbing and two cans of "air horn" and presto- cold A/C again.

Stop laughing, lol. Some folks with a death wish use Propane: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126...ad-r-12-c.html
Hank Hill would approve.

Thank you Radi I do have one concern. The mircaptin they use to "sent" propane is one and the same molecule as from rotting flesh. Just a few PPM I guess is all it takes to attract flies! Stands to reason my system leaks, (a tiny bit). That smell, as well as flies might not be too welcome. I might try it though. 2 Oz of what oil I wonder. I have some Senco oil here for my air nailer...wonder what it takes.
