4x4 wont let go
Yesterday I put my Jeep in to 4wh high and drove thru some mud and sand at the lake, then when I got done and pushed the lever back down to 2wh drive, the 4x4 did not disengage. I pulled and pushed the lever many more times over the next 10 mins or so, then it just disengaged... Why did this happen and is this normal or not??
Thanks agin for the help.

Sometimes it takes 10-20ft of moving to get the t-case to disengage. Did you do your lever action sitting still or rolling??
You may have your linkage out of adjustment. While having someone move the lever, you can lay under there and see how the linkage works and the adjuster bolts. If attempting to adjust, I recommend you remove linkage completely..CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN all the dirt and rust off it. Then grease it...reinstall...adjust so all ranges are working.

When I was trying to get the 4x4 to let go, I tryed it stoped and after rolling a little. The guy that we got the Jeep from told my wife that he had not driven the Jeep much in the last couple of years.
The lift was already on the Jeep so I really have no idea on what was done or not done..

Comment about fluid.
Trans is bolted to t-case. T-case operates front and rear driveshaft. ANY driving will heat up and move fluid in the t-case. Its impossible for it not to unless there isn't any fluid in it.
Its like saying you need to drive a jeep to get the engine oil to flow. Just start the engine...pump will do the work. Drive the jeep and the tranny pump and t-case fluid will flow no matter what.
Glad the problem is fixed.
