4x4 in part time / 4 low problem
Went wheeling the other day and put the jeep in 4 low however my part time light came on the guage cluster. Is that normal for 99-01 xj's? Or is mine not engaging in 4 low is there anyway to tell. Thanks

Like when i take my foot off the break it would slightly begin to roll forward, there was no room to "go fast" but it felt like it had enough power to get up to speed if i had room my friends jeeps sounded real whine'y kind of like a supercharger sound and would bearly go over 5mph which i understand is 4 low

You were in low range then. You can do about 30-40 tops in low range in these but I wouldn't reccomend it. The transfer case wines like a supercharger at 7k+ rpm and your tach will be over 4k in overdrive.

Here:
Here's how the factory suggests you shift the transfer case and I've been doing this since these things were new and I worked at the dealership. Quoted from the owner's manual. The suggestions in CAPS are mine.
"To engage, shift the transfer case lever from 2H to 4H while the vehicle is moving at any legal speed". I LET OFF THE GAS, THROW THE LEVER, TAP THE GAS AND LET OFF.
4L position: " To engage, slow the vehicle to 2-3 MPH , shift the transmission to Neutral, then shift the transfer lever to the right and pull firmly rearward to 4L".
TO SHIFT OUT OF 4L, SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL WITH THE VEHICLE STOPPED, SHIFT THE TRANSFER CASE LEVER TO 2H, THEN THE TRANS TO D IF YOU HAVE AN AUTOMATIC, OR INTO FIRST GEAR WITH A MANUAL, AND CONTINUE ON.
