Default 4x4 is not engaging

went offroad today and my back tires would spin alot and the front ones would barely move, i dont think the front wheel drive was working, i was in the 4H setting and i didn't feel any difference between that and the 2H also no light came on to signify i was in 4WD

Have you checked the linkage? Put it in 4 wheel and see if the linkage underneath is hitting or anything.

thats just how they are ha. If u need instant 4 wheel drive put it in 4LO. make sure u come to a complete stop before doing so and neutral. Also what i do when im spinning in my driveway and trying to leave after a snow storm. I put it in 4LO then put it into 4hi and it will be engaged. I have the np242 t-case. As far as i know the np231 doesn't do this? Don't quote me though

The Nv242 seems to be alot more picky then the Nv231 is, nobody knows why...just a Jeep thing.

Theres nothing to actually "fix" i believe that there is a write up on how to get around it. And if it wont go into 4LO try to move forward a little more and try it again. make sure your in NEUTRAL and not moving

Theres a gate, nudge the shifter to the right and then pull back.
