Default 4x4 indicator light

My Cherokee wont show its in 4x4 when I pull the lever up. The light in the instrument panel doesn't even show it. I have put a new bulb in it but still no good. Any ideas on what's the deal?
Thanks,
Blake

there's a 4x4 sensor switch on the transfer case. Mine doesn't work either and I know this is the reason for it. To be sure you can unplug it and us a paper clip to jumper the terminals. If the light on the dash turns on you just need to swap out the switch.

If you have a CAD axle, your profile says 88 so good chance you do, it uses a switch on the firewall that is controlled by vacuum. Could be a cracked line from the t-case to the axle. Do you know if the front axle is ingauging?

The axle is ingaging I know that for sure, and I'll check the sensor and see if that's the problem I'll probably check the vacum hose as well.

Will this write up run the same for a 95 sport? I already swapped the bulbs in the dash. What a PITA! Im going to crawl under her today and poke around a little. I have no 4x4 indicators (full or part). 4x4 does in fact engage...

On my 90 I can pull the lever up and know I'm engaged but the light has a delay coming on.

Now, not trying to hijack this, but wondering why the light goes out when I lose traction at times while I am wheeling.

Anyone else experience this?
