Exclamation 4x4?

ok i just got my 98 sport a few weeks ago and the 4wd works when it wants to in order to get it to engage the trans has to be in neutral then i have to go to 4low then back to 4hi and sometimes it works sometimes it wont. am i low on fluid or is the tcase dying?

do a search, find directions on checking/adjusting linkage. If it hasnt been changed it wouldnt hurt any to do it.

Wait for you to go into 4hi you have to shift down to pow first? I understand the shifting the tranny part just curious if you have to do that just for your rig to go into hi

yup ive only got it to catch 4low once its a guessing game that i dont like playing usally i only have 2wd i had 2low once cause the tcase didnt engage 4low

Damn that sucks yea do what defiance said check the linkage and it doesn't hurt opening to check the gears and fluid. Worse thing is if you screw your driveshaft and everything up for using 4wd when not needed

fsm doesnt say much...
(4) Loosen Shift rod Trunnion
(5) Move shift lever and transfer case to 4L position.
(6) Tighten trunnion lock bolt.

I don't wanna say no, burning dont think so I think it's all mechanical but I haven't has to do major work on my 01 so I can't say for sure
