Just bought 88-4x4. I tightened the shifter link plate on trans, replaced the fuel pump, injectors, & trans/cross member bushing. Runs awesome except the 4x4 shifter feels really tight and wont even go into 4 low. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Make sure its properly adjusted and also make sure the drive train in not under load(put tranny in neutral).

Put it in neutral if auto and foot off the brake and if a standard pop it out of gear and don't put pressure on the brake. If not check you linkage and your fluid level in the tc

It should be tough to put it in 4lo because it has to go past neutral first, but it should still go in with a firm pull. It says it in the manual pull firmly for it to go into 4lo. Mine I have to pull pretty hard sometimes. Putting the tranny in neutral does help though.
