in my 98 the part time light never comes on in the dash but im 100% sure its engaged! could the light be burned out??

Do you have command trac by chance?, if that's the case then the light won't ever come on.

There is a mode (position)switchin the top of the tcase , prob sticky, mine does the same , sometimes a little slow to react.

sometimes it takes awhile for them to turn on or the bulb is out

How is that? Command trac IS part time. My 99 has the same issue, engages but no light. From what ive read it is most likely to be a switch ( that was mentioned) down on the tcase. Do a little parts search on that, you should find it!

There is switch that is screwed into the top of your Tcase with a connector coming out of it. You can take it out and try to clean it and use some di electric grease. There is a small ball inside of the switch that can sometimes get gunked up. If that doesn't work make a trip to the JY and pull one. If you want to buy it new if I remember correctly they r close to 50$ (ouch!).

easy test, when you turn the key to the run position, all your dash lights should turn on for a short amount of time to verify they are working, if the part time light turns on then, then you know the bulb is fine, if it doesnt turn on, bulb is dead
