Default 4WD into a 2WD

I have a 1999 4x4 Jeep Cherokee with major frame rust. So my plan was to buy a donor jeep with a much better frame and put my engine and tyranny, as well as my 4WD into it. I have a guy who is willing to sell me his 1998 2WD Cherokee. Are these bodies made for both 2WD and 4WD? Or is there fabrications needed to the frame to make it work?

As far as I know everything will just bolt in. Of course you'll need all the control linkages and wiring harnesses to go along with it though. I think the hardest part will be mounting the front axle and getting the alignment right.

Actually, make sure you keep the 8.25 rear axle if the 2wd doesn't have it already. The 2wd may still have a D35.

I plan on keeping all the linkage and what not on my current jeep. Eventually I plan on replacing all the suspension parts but im glad to know its simply the case of bolting everything on. Only thing I dont need on my current jeep is the frame.

If swapping transmissions between years, this is an essential read.
