Not that it's a big deal, but I'm trying to fix all the little stuff on my XJ and one thing that I read was a pretty easy one was to clean out the 4wd indicator switch in order to fix the indicator lights on the dash. I found the 4wd indicator switch up on top of the transfer case on the driver's side, and unplugged it and sprayed some cleaner on it, but my question is:

In order to "clean" it like I know a lot of people on here have successfully, do I actually need to unbolt the whole switch and take it out, or is it the contacts that usually are the cause of the issue? Gonna be a PITA if I have to figure out a way to reach up over that thing to unbolt it...

Clean the terminals and see if it does the trick,if not then at least you will know. If you did have to get to the switch,you can remove the rear drive shaft and lower the trany and xfer case down with a floor jack enough to get to the switch easly. Just be caeful of the wiring and shift linkages or remove them.

You will have to unscrew the switch.

Use electrical contact cleaner.

You will have to push the contact "ball" in slightly to get the cleaner in there.
