I HOPE you are doing 4 wheel drive on LOOSE sand, gravel or snow.
If you are doing this on clean blacktop or concrete, you are damaging your Jeep.
4 Wheel drive is for LOOSE driving conditions. Trails, Snow, Gravel and Sand only.
You are binding up your driveline as the front wheels need to turn FASTER during a turn than the rear wheels. When they are all locked together in 4 wheel mode there is no way they can alter the speeds and it makes the wheels "HOP" around. Very VERY VERY BAD on your XJ.
UNLESS you have a 242 Transfer Case. This has a 4 wheel drive "FULL TIME" mode that CAN be driven all the time in 4x4 mode as the transfer case allows the front or rear axles to spin at different speeds as needed.
IF you are doing this on the proper surfaces, you probably need the front outer U-Joints replaced in the front axles behind the knuckle. I had both my fronts replaced when I did the hub-bearings a few years ago.

It would depend on where you are testing it as the other guy said. You need to be in some loose stuff for it to operate smoothly in 4WD. 4 lo will be even worse. Also not sure what diffs you are running. Limited slip will cause chirping and a bucking type feel when turning. If you are locked then expect it to be even worse.
Take a look at your drive shafts and front axle shafts. If they are badly worn you will be loading and unloading them while moving forward and turning.
