4.5 lift what backspaceing
ok, so i ordered a 4.5" rc lift with lc drop brackets and adj. trac bar today[oh yeah ] and im going to buy new rims tomarrow. my qs is what back space should i get to clear 12.50 wide 35" tall tires. the local 4wheel parts center says this kit with some trimmin theyd would fit but i might have a little rubbing. i am buyin crager soft 8s cause they look so sweeeeet. and yes they will 10" wide to acomadate for the wide tires. i know with the rustys 6" i had on my 92 i cleared 36" tire with minor triming, but i dont rember what the dang back space was. any help would be good. what do u guys think.

35's are going to be pushing it but it is doable. Just be prepared for some trail side fender trimming if you don't do enough.
And kudos on getting your wife on the XJ addiction!

There is no way those 35's will fit.
I have a 4.5 inch lift, and 33's are the max, without extensive trimming.
Have you though about that little bitty rear axle?
If you wheel hard, 35's will destroy it. You are going to loose a bit of low end with 35's and the 3.55 rear gears.
I am running 31's, great clearance, and you can actually fully flex the kit and not chew up your body parts.
I also drive the jeep like it is stolen, and I am certain I would break the rear axle with 35's. You might want to consider 33's.
Just my 2 cents, and congrats on the lift.

I wouldn't go any larger then 33's but would likely stick to 32's...On myu lift which sits at about 4.25" I was thinking 32's but the more I think I am likely going 31's so I c na flex better.

well if u look on the rc site they claim the 35" will fit with trimming, as far as the d35 rear. my last xj had same rear with a rustys 8" lift pushing 38x15.50x15 boggers and a welded rear end. acually drove from oregon to new mexico and back and held up fine. the reson im running 35" tires is cause thats the minimum trail req. around where i live. 33" dont cut it with out bending tie rods and damageing drive shafts every time u wheel. the area we wheel is the same as moab exept u add tons of rain and mud.

My 31's rub on my 4.5 inch lift, I have no trimmng.
With 4.5 you just can not stuff that tire into the rear wheel well, it will hit body parts.
As far as your last jeep, road miles don't break axles. you get good and twisted up and stick one of those 35's in a hole and gun the motor, all you gnna hear is the sound of money leaving you wallet.
For 35's you shoud have a 6 inch lift, that way you can flex em.
Good luck with your project, and post some before and after pics, we would all love to see it.

yeah it should have made noises, but it didnt,it was built with 4:88 gaers and i crawled all over in moab and did some n the nevada mountains, never broke nuttin. i also look at how stiff the springs are, kits made in the usa are good depending if there steel is from overseas or not. china is the numb.1 exporter of our steel and is weeker than amrican due to iron content. i guess what im getting at is all lifts are not all the same when it comes to where the raw matterial comes from. dont really matter, i piced my kit up today and started tearing it down so i guess ill have to wait and see. i still have the 2" bb i can put in on top of that.
