There is some work involved. The 4.3 will end up cleaner due to clearance problems with the steering box and front air intake.
I think I've seen some posts here that said the 4.3 is a bolt-in swap into an 84-86 XJ's that came with a 2.8 V6.
If so, maybe you could find one of those in your area with a bad 2.8 cheap and you'd be in high cotton.
I may be mistaken...but it wouldn't hurt to search around on here to find out.

ya that wouldn't be a bad deal to tell the truth i really never wanted a jeep but a bud of mine had this one and it was lifted had molly front shafts and rock sliders already on it and he was in a bind and i got it for 500 so now i got it and its really startin to grow on me just don't no anything about them

I used the Chevy 4L60E. I was going to use a beefed up T5 but the smog police made me use the tranny that was behind it in the donor rig.
