Good luck, hope it helps!
another part I forgot about doing not too long ago, this problem was present prior to me changing it out and after. I’m almost positive it’s the shaft/seal on the throttle body for the butterfly. Just have to figure out if I can get a rebuild kit or just buy a new throttle body. Thank you!

I'm not aware of a rebuilt kit, but here's a "hack" to temporarily fix it.

I see used TBs on eBay for around $50. If you have a salvage yard nearby, you can get one cheaper. Now that know what to look for in terms of shaft play, you can likely pick out a good one.

good news! I did the o ring hack in this video and it has my Jeep running great again. Thank you for the help, I really started to go crazy trying to find this issue.

I did the harbor freight O ring hack myself a few years ago, did seem to work good. I would add something I recently discovered, the O ring on the idle air controller seems to be a "one and done" bc it neither fits neatly into the machined housing or around the IAC. and gets munched. Leaks. Consider a new IAC with O ring

It would be nice to find a good fitting o-ring with a Napa part number and made of the correct material for the application.

Yep, same happened on my '88. One day got a high idle at cold startup (like 2000 rpm) that would usually settle down after about 20-30 secs and run fine until the next cold startup. My IAC was replaced a few years ago but I took it out to clean it and the passages and noted the oring. Had one that fit in my "junk drawer" of car stuff. Fixed.
