Be careful when taking off that air bag to get to those cruise buttons in the wheel. Better go ahead and disconnect the battery while you do that. Other than that it should be an easy job. There modular unit design is great.

Good luck!

Ok, I am kind of confused.

Just to make sure we are on the same page....

The donor xj was a 2000. Your xj is a 2000?

You already swapped out the clockspring and the cruise buttons in the steering wheel?

You wrote that you did not have the male plug in the engine compartment, was is cut? From what I have seen and read, all 97+xjs have that plug installed regardless if it has cruise or not.

On the 97+xjs, the only things you need are the servo, the clockspring, and the buttons. There is a compatibility issue with 97 vs 2000 regarding the buttons (just ask how I know), but everything else plugs right in. The only other thing that can go wrong is that if the donor airbag was deployed, most likely the spring is toast.

Let us know about the plug for the servo. My plug was aft of the battery zip tied to the harness.

thanks for the reply scOOter, yes the doner was a 2000 xj same as mine. i do have everything hooked up but the electric part of it. what i was trying to explain was that i didn't just unplug the system from the donor but i cut the plug pass the connection that went into the wiring harness from the donor in case i needed that. but if i already have the female plug on my harness( that would be awsome and all i would have to do then is plug the servo in and the cruise should work) if i do have that female plug could you please send me a picture of where it might be. i have looked and i just can't find it. THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND TIME, IT'S GREATLY APPRECIATED.....ED

Too dark outside for a photo. If you look in your engine compartment, the servo bolts to the fender right behind the battery. If you imagine that the plug can only be within a few inches of the harness, it should be right there. You already have the one cut out of the donor, so you know what the plug looks like. Just follow the harness that is behind the battery along the wheel well and you should find it. I will take a pic tomorrow when the sun is out.

Sorry it took me so long to get these up. The first is the location behind the battery. Imagine that pic minus the cruise actuator, the plug was just laying there. The second is a pic of the cable itself attached to the actuator. Note the four wires and the respective colors.

Glad I found this thread, I'm working a similar issue myself. I have a 95 xj that didn't come with cruise control. I just purchased the kit off of jeepsareus for about $300. The kit came with the clock spring, steering wheel buttons, servo, and abag of wires/connector. Everythign installed nicely, except there is no plug near the battery that will fit onto the servo. I'm guessing I'll have to splice into the wiring harness somewhere with the supplied wires, but the kit didn't come with any instructions for doing this. So it appears we're in the same boat.

Sc00ter, can you snap a picture of where that servo connecter enters the wiring harness?

The vehicle in the picture is a 2000xj- I would be glad to snap a pic of it, but it might be different. If you can wait a week, I will be with my 94xj and can take a pic of it as well.

NM, just poked around some more. Looks like the wiring is there, it just has the wrong connector type on it, which is what was provided. Time for some splicing! The picture above was a big help in showing the wiring colors and order. Thanks!

Glad to hear it! That is precisely why I took the second picture, in case someone had to do some wire work.

If anyone else is still looking for that plug, just look at the second pic and see the angle of the wire as it heads under the servo. Then look at the first pic, you can see the spiral wrapped harness traveling under the servo and along the inner fender/fender seam. The junction is not visible in either pic, but is directly under the servo. My guess is that the pigtail for the cruise is only about 5 inches in length. I highly recommend this quick and easy upgrade (plug and play if you have the correct year stuff and the PO didn't change anything). Might as well get some good from the cash/clunker program.

HTH.
