So would a 1992 mount up to any 5 speed transmission? Such as the ax5

Depends what the AX-5 was bolted up to before.

AX-15 would be a better choice to mate to a 4.0.

The ax5 wont handle the stress from a 4.0 it can barely handle a 2.5 which makes little power

What he said! The AX15 is far superior to the AX5, you will blow the gears right out of an AX5 with a 4.0 bolted to it!
