I would first make sure that what you have is working fine, check ac cond and radiator cooling fins to make sure they are clear, and your fans pump, tstat etc are fine.
You can aslo upgrade to 3 core radiator and better pump.
One other thing that could help is water wetter,it is added to your coolant to help in cooling.

Sounds like we are having the issues: now I have a question how hot is normal, I installed a good temp. gauge with new sensor it shows 185 F normal driving on freeway no hills or air on, now if I turn the air on (and yes the elec fan works) and / or drive up a hill on the freeway the water temp goes up to 212F. Sofar I have done following to cure the problem: Flushed radiator / new water pump / new hose , I even put spacers in to rais my hood a little to allow more airflow in the engine compartment it still goes up to 210 F. Just comparing the radiator size and style to a similar size car or truck (Ranger 4.0) it looks to me that they just installed the wrong radiator from factory?????

Need more info,

What temp is your guage showing?
Have you changed any cooling parts?
When was your last flush?
Does your temp all of a sudden spike to the red?
Does you lower rad. hose have an internal spring?
Have you checked your fan clutch?
Does your E Fan come on around 218?
Does your EFan come on when the a/c is turned on?
Is the E Fan running up to par (fast)? It is a one speed fan.

You should be able to hear the fan kicking on.

Welcome to CF

when you stop and turn off your engine... pop your hood up and prop it up to let the heat out... that is how i let mine cool...

That is yet another one of the many things I am working on with my jeep. I don't have a temp gauge just the dummy light. It never comes on while driving but it just feels WAY too hot after I shut it down and pop the hood. Time and money never seem to be in the same place at the same time though HAH!

Good luck though!

mine goes up above 210 sometimes, is that normal? never in the "red" i was going to post up about that but now is a good time.

i have vents cut in the hood of mine, i need to flush radiator and change the t-stat just for the heck of it.

but yea mine gets hot and hot inside, which that may be from the hole in the floor and the flowmaster muffler staring at me when i look behind the passenger seat in the open floor i love it!!!!! no one rides with me, except for my dog

The e fan should come on, you would be suprised at how much it will help cool you engine down. Try this, unplug your e fan and jumper it to the battery, if it comes on good and strong than the fan is ok. If not, replace your fan.

Default What year is your Cherokee

This might help you since we have the same issue, mine is a 96' I6 to test if the e fan is working you can do two things
1. if you have a/c turn it on the e fan should run as soon as the comp kicks in!
2. unplug the cable to your temp sensor (just right of the thermostat, made out of brass) this should turn it on too because your control unit thinks the sensor is bad and turns it on! (that will result in your check engine light coming on but after you plugged it back in and a few days it will go away!

Now to your not starting issue, do you push the gas pedal a little while starting ?
